Each airline has its own rules. Most airports will allow a parent who is not flying to escort their child through security to the gate, and to meet them at the gate, too.

Either way, the airport doesn't make the rules.



The Code of Federal Regulations, Title 14; Part 61 governs pilot certification & age requirements. There is no regulated age to begin training, but a youth must be 16 to solo and 17 to get their Private Pilot license.



As far as airline passenger youths, check with the website of the airline the child is flying with for "unaccompanied minor" information. UM's are usually ages 5-13 and must be booked on a direct (same plane with stops enroute) or a nonstop flight. Parents & guardians are allowed to accompany the chils to the gate and must wait for the flight to depart.
