The lady on the phone told me that her job was not to make customers happy, but to be a mediator. I find that unbelievable. I want to complain, but to whom? I was already dealing with customer care service.

You'll have to call Customer care and ask to speak with a supervisor. Be aware that they will be even more rude when you do this. Other than that all you can do is put it in writing, which will guarantee that at least SOMEONE looks at it. Either through email or snail mail.
I worked at a call center as customer service for a bank when I was in college. We didn't take kindly to people who just call up and rudely demand a supervisor. Remember that you're just one fish in a sea of SEVERAL million. They won't care about losing A customer and his/her family/friends. Be very calm about it and very straight forward. Say that you know it's not their (being the person you're talking to currently) fault, but...
And the number in the phone book won't be for the coporate office. It never is.

pnching, the first thing I would do is get ahold of the corporate office and file an complaint with them, they will see that somethings done, they're reputation is on the line. Well I hope I have been helpful goodluck. Later Wildwolfgrey
P.S. Look up the Marriots's phone number in the phone book
